Robert A. Burge, DVM — Chief of Staff
Dr. Burge, our Chief of Staff, has been practicing veterinary medicine for more than 43 years. He was born and raised on a dairy farm in Wellington Ohio, a small town in southern Lorain County. Dr. Burge attended Ohio State University (OSU) for both undergraduate and veterinary school, graduating from OSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1971. He started Apple Hill Animal Hospital in 1976, and moved into the current building in 1992.
Dr. Burge is married to Susan Burge and they have two children. He and his wife have raised and shown poodles for over 30 years. When not at work, Dr. Burge enjoys golfing and gardening. He has maintained the gardens around Apple Hill Animal Hospital since its inception.
Julia A. Grossman, DVM
Dr. Julia Grossman graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She worked at a variety of emergency clinics in the Cleveland and Columbus areas as a technician while attending vet school. Dr. Grossman has a special interest in nutrition and western herbal therapies to complement traditional western medicine. She and her husband Jim share their home with their cats, DD and YaYa. Dr. Grossman and her husband welcomed twin sons Anthony and Elijah in October 2009. They are growing like weeds.
Lydia Rust, DVM
Dr. Rust joined the Apple Hill Animal Hospital team in August 2014. After completing undergraduate studies at Tulane University in 2007, she earned her DVM degree from Ohio State University (OSU) in 2012. Dr. Rust's medical interests include animal behavior and zoo and wildlife medicine. Previously, Dr. Rust practiced at our sister hospital, Champlain Valley Veterinary Services, in Plattsburgh, NY.
In her free time, Dr. Rust enjoys running, hiking, traveling, and volunteering. She has three cats — Buddy, Larry, and Becky.
Allie Hatala, DVM
Dr. Allie Hatala grew up in Brecksville and currently resides in Independence, Ohio. She received an undergraduate degree from the University if Findlay and earned a DVM degree from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Her special interests include feline medicine, dermatology, and animal behavior.
In her spare time, Dr. Hatala enjoys working out, playing board games, reading, and watching TV. She also shares her home with two cats, Dizzy and Dexter. Dr. Hatala is excited to join the Apple Hill Animal Hospital team and serve the community that she grew up in!
